Pay-on-Delivery and Cash Collection Terms

What senders and navigators agree to when money is collected in person at delivery.

About these terms

These terms apply when money for a delivery is collected in person: when a store or client (the “Sender”) asks the person receiving a parcel (the “Recipient”) to pay for the goods on delivery, and when a Navigator collects a delivery fee or a return fee at the door.

They should be read together with the Dropoint Terms of Service, the Customer Terms, the Store Partner Policy and the Navigator Partner Agreement. Senders accept them in the app before their first pay-on-delivery order, and Navigators accept them each time they record cash.

For senders: collecting payment for goods

How it works

You can set an item amount for the Recipient to pay when the parcel arrives. The app shows the highest amount allowed and the collection fee before you confirm the order.

The Recipient pays by M-Pesa only, to Dropoint. Navigators are told never to accept cash for goods. The Recipient receives an SMS with the amount to pay.

When you get the money

When the delivery is completed, the item amount, less the collection fee, is credited to your Dropoint wallet. You can then withdraw it, subject to the usual withdrawal rules and fees.

If the Recipient refuses or can't pay

The Navigator does not hand over the parcel. The delivery is marked as failed and the parcel is returned to you. You pay the delivery fee and a return fee, as shown in the app. The same applies if the delivery fee was due from the Recipient and they refuse to pay it.

If those fees are due when the parcel is handed back and you don't pay them, Dropoint reviews what happened. If you are found to owe them, they are charged to your wallet, even if that makes your balance negative, and you can't place new orders until you have cleared what you owe.

Your responsibilities

You confirm that the item amount is the true price agreed with the Recipient, and that the goods are lawful and are not prohibited under the Terms of Service.

Dropoint delivers the parcel and collects the payment for you. Dropoint is not the seller of the goods. Questions about the quality, description or return of the goods, and any refund of their price, are between you and the Recipient.

If a Recipient's payment is reversed, or a collection is found to be fraudulent or made in error, Dropoint may deduct that amount from your wallet.

For navigators: collecting money at the door

What you may accept

Follow what the app shows for each order. Goods money is M-Pesa only: never accept cash for it. Cash is allowed only for a delivery fee or a return fee, when the app offers it.

An M-Pesa payment counts only when it is made through the prompt you send from the app, or to Dropoint's paybill. Never accept a payment to your own number or to any other account.

When you accept cash

By ticking the box in the app, you confirm that you have received the full amount shown, in cash, and you accept these terms. Record only what you have actually received.

You keep the cash. Dropoint's share is taken from your wallet at that moment, even if that makes your balance negative. What you owe is settled by topping up, or from your future earnings. Above the limits shown in the app, you may stop receiving cash jobs or be unable to go online.

If the Recipient can't or won't pay

Do not hand over the parcel. Report the delivery as failed (refused) in the app and return the parcel to the Sender. If a Recipient takes the parcel without paying, contact Dropoint support straight away.

If a Sender doesn't pay at hand-back

You can report this in the app only when handing back a returned parcel, and only if it is true. You must confirm the warning first. Your earnings for that order are held while Dropoint reviews the report.

If Dropoint finds that the Sender did pay you, Dropoint's share is taken from your wallet and the report counts against you. Taking money without recording it, or making untrue reports, may lead to suspension or termination under the Navigator Partner Agreement.

Records

Dropoint records who accepted which version of these terms and when, along with what was collected on each order. This data is handled in line with the Privacy Notice.

Changes to these terms

This is version 1. When these terms change, the version number changes and the app asks you to accept the new version before you next use these features.
